About

Portrait of Valter Váli

I'm a Hungarian software engineer based in Budapest, completing an MSc in Visual Computing at Technische Universität Wien. All coursework is done, and I'm now focused on my master's thesis and expect to graduate in 2026.

My background spans computer graphics, computer vision, machine learning, and software development. I hold a BSc in Computer Science from Budapest University of Technology and Economics, where I graduated with highest honours. I've interned at Continental as a sensor fusion engineer and taught SQL in university labs.

Outside of code, I enjoy FDM 3D printing and designing custom models, building LEGO sets, playing board games and videogames, hiking, or going to the theatre or a concert when I can.

Experience

Sensor Fusion Engineer Intern — Parking Team

Continental AG

Developed Python tools for sensor measurement analysis within the sensor fusion parking team: a desktop GUI for topic statistics and quality filtering across measurement files, and a heatmap-based tool for visualizing wheel stopper detection error. Also extended an existing C++/OpenGL measurement replay application with new features, visual improvements, and bug fixes.

Chess Analyzer

An Android app that uses computer vision to localize a chessboard and recognize pieces from an image, using OpenCV for board detection and a self-trained TFLite model for piece classification. Recognized positions are evaluated by the integrated Stockfish engine and queried against the Lichess API for opening and position data. The app can also continuously monitor a physical game and transcribe moves into standard chess notation.
